Adoro adquirir conhecimento novo e, quando há algo que não percebo, dá-me gozo tentar perceber e aprender. Apesar disto, ainda hoje não consigo entender um fenómeno - paranormal, diria - que só tenho visto acontecer no Instagram. Aliás, entender até entendo, só não consigo ver uma ponta que seja de lógica nele; é que nem um bocadinho à Danoninho. Qual a cena de partilharem fotos, seja de uma viagem ou de o raio que o parta, espaçadamente durante várias semanas ou meses no Instagram? ...

Sou fã e leitor do webcomic Cyanide and Happiness há uma série de anos. É genial, como podem ver pela imagem deste post.

A história do Titanic, apesar de trágica, é sobejamente conhecida e já faz parte do mundo do cinema. Menos conhecida é a construção deste barco, que muitos na altura julgavam, com as suas 52.310 toneladas, ser demasiado pesado para flutuar no oceano. O sucesso na construção do navio, com a estrutura em aço, deu uma boa dose de confiança aos responsáveis. A segurança na qualidade de construção do navio era tanta que chegaram a afirmar que era impossível afundar o Titanic. ...

I’ve started reading The Darkening Age, a book by Catherine Nixey about the destruction Christianity brought to the other religions in its early days. This was a recommendation André Esteves made to me on Twitter and I’m glad he did it. I’ve just finished the prologue and was so blown by how it ends that I stopped reading it so I could publish this. Mere decapitation wasn’t enough. More blows fell, scalping Athena, striking the helmet from the goddess’s head, smashing it into pieces. Further blows followed. The statue fell from its pedestal, then the arms and shoulders were chopped off. The body was left on its front in the dirt; the nearby altar was sliced off just above its base. Only then does it seem that these men – these Christians – felt satisfied that their work was done. They melted out once again into the desert. Behind them the temple fell silent. The votive lamps, no longer tended, went out. On the floor, the head of Athena slowly started to be covered by the sands of the Syrian desert. The ‘triumph’ of Christianity had begun. ...
